Ensemble Stars is a Japanese mobile card game about idols that attend the private academy, Yumenosaki. You play as a transfer student, later named Anzu, who is the first to take part in a program that will make the school co-ed while introducing the producer class. Makoto is part of the group that works to take down Eichi Tenshounin and his group Fine who’s the top group of the school. After his group manages to defeat Fine in the DDD, one of the biggest competitions in their school, they move onto the SS another big competition where they will represent Yumenosaki up against Eden, a top group representing their rival school, who they’ll have to beat to win. While they’re getting ready for the SS, Makoto gains more experience as an idol, ready to take on the next challenge in the idol world with his group Trickstar. Above are the links that detail his history in the game.

PERSONALITY: Makoto Yuuki is a cheerful, hardworking guy that’s making his way as an idol while improving himself along the way. He's in the unit Trickstar with Subaru Akehoshi, Mao Isara, and Hokuto Hidaka. While Makoto enjoys his friends there are times he feels that he’s the weakest link in the unit which pushes him to work harder to bridge the difference between them. One of the ways he’s working on it is by becoming the mood setter for their group. He may be nervous on the inside, he’s going to make sure that it doesn’t show on the outside. He’s someone who will push down his fears to do what he needs to do. His confidence starts to grow once he becomes comfortable doing live shows.

Makoto’s confidence continues to grow while performing with Trickstar. Being part of the unit that’s trying to overthrow the current system of the school means that a lot of attention is on them to succeed. He works to improve his skills by staying late at school to practice or exercising until he drops, he wants to make sure he doesn’t let Trickstar down. His low self confidence is still something that he fights with from time to time. He wants to make sure that he continues to have a place in his group, club, and that he can be a reliable student.

Makoto really admires the people in his unit, however, he can be humble when it comes to himself. Trickstar and the transfer student they work with helps Makoto when his confidence starts to wane. They know his fears and they help him work through it. It gives Makoto the strength to move forward since he knows that even if he messes up his friends will be there to help him. It pushes Makoto to want to work harder for them so they can all succeed.

Makoto is a very friendly and cheerful guy who gets along with a lot of people. There’s Trickstar, Anzu, the transfer student, the Broadcasting Club, and the Tennis Club. He may not be good at communicating, though he’s trying to improve on it. He can find good qualities in anyone then make sure that they know about it. He doesn’t hold grudges either, not even against Izumi Sena, an upperclassman that used to model with him, after he kidnapped him. Makoto doesn’t press any charges against him in favor of trying to repair their relationship. He does his best to be cheerful to everyone and not to get on their bad side. He’s not the type to get in trouble either. However, he will voice his opinion if something bothers him, even if it causes some tension. Makoto won’t hesitate to make up with them so they can continue their friendship.

He also likes to joke around with his friends such as being part of the idiot duo with his friend/unit mate/classmate Subaru Akehoshi. He becomes friends with Jun Sazanami who’s from a rival school that they’re going up against in the SS. He’s kind to his underclassmen too. He bonds with Shinobu Sengoku, his underclassman from the broadcasting club, and Sora Harukawa, a member of the video game club, even though he’s not a member of the club anymore he’ll still play games with him. If anyone comes to him for help, he’ll do his best to help out.

Despite his cheerful demeanor there are times he can be selfish. While he may not hold a grudge he will remember what happened so he can protect his feelings, though that means he won’t think about the about the other person’s feelings in the process. This has been pointed out by Ritsu Sakuma in Starmie when he mentioned how Izumi Sena, his former modeling partner, has been trying to repair their relationship, yet Makoto continues to dismiss and hide from him. Makoto knew that Izumi had been looking for him, but he didn’t want to talk to him so he hid until they had to practice together. Another time happened during Circus when he made an offhand comment to his friend and fellow unitmate Mao Isara about still doing things for the student council, the group they’re supposed to be taking down, even though he’s supposed to be a part of Trickstar. While he doesn’t show it often he can be quite selfish when it comes to his feelings and people in his life.

One of his main motivations for being an idol is he wants to make a name for himself without relying on his modeling past. He started modeling as a child, however as it goes on it slowly starts to drain Makoto as modeling takes away his identity to make him into the perfect doll that will smile on cue. Before the start of the game Makoto stops being a model to pursue being an idol. He wants to show everyone that he can make it as himself, not as the doll modeling turned him into. It’s something he wants to show Izumi who’s still a big part in Makoto’s life. Izumi is always trying to get Makoto to go back into the modeling world or to rely on him as a big brother again. While he wishes that Izumi wouldn’t act so different around him, he does respect Izumi as a model and entertainer. He wants to be able to show Izumi that he can stand on his own two feet as an idol. He also wants to be able to stand as an idol from his own merit, to be seen as his own person and not a doll ever again.

POWERS/ABILITIES: Makoto doesn’t have any magical powers, but he’s very good at gathering information and working technology. He’s good at being a mood maker who will change the mood to make sure everyone is comfortable. When he’s onstage he will turn his mistakes into something that’s part of his performance. Being an idol he’s very good at singing, he also has extensive knowledge of photography due to his past as a model. He can also pick up the pattern of different games from video games to crane games and be very successful at them on the first try.

+Passionate: He can be passionate when it comes to the thing he likes such as electronic devices and video games. He can spend hours helping someone with their computer, a game, or anything that has something to do with technology. In his former club he has all the high score on the games and frequently goes to the arcade. He keeps up with the new games coming out and will help other members from units if they’re having computer trouble.

- Lack of confidence: Makoto doesn’t have a lot of confidence in himself. He does his best to work through this by working hard and doing everything he can to keep up. Even though this results in him overworking himself to the point of exhaustion as long as he was able to keep up, he’ll do it again. He’s getting better in fighting this, but there are times where he will question where he stands in his unit, the clubs he’s in, and when his underclassmen from his old club looks for him.

- Selfish: There are times Makoto can be selfish especially when it comes to his own feelings. While he may not hold a grudge he will remember what happened so he’ll do his best to protect his feelings sometimes without thinking about the other person’s feelings. This has been pointed out by Ritsu Sakuma in Starmie when he mentioned how Izumi Sena has been trying to repair their relationship, yet Makoto continues to dismiss and hide from him. -Insensitive: There are times Makoto can have a smart remark that will border on insensitive and rude. Such as the time when he came late to the broadcasting club in one of his sub stories about taking Anzu, the transfer student, to be interviewed by Nazuna Nito, his senpai of the club. While there he apologizes, but he does point out Nazuna’s lisp and repeats a question he told him in a sarcastic way. Another time is during Starmie when Izumi Sena talked about how distress he was that Makoto didn’t want to work with him and Makoto pointed out that he doesn’t want anything to happen cause they still had a live to finish. Makoto doesn’t become rude like this often, but when he does he will point out things and focus on them to make a sarcastic remark about it.

You learn more about the past of Yumenosaki, the present idols units, and the guys that make up those units along the way. You get to collect cards too.

He feels that he’s the weakest link in the unit which pushes him to work harder to bridge the difference between them. PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: Instead of his green eyes, he has brown ones. His blue glasses are now black.

AU HISTORY: * Grew up in Japan, but has lived in different places around the world due to his parents’ careers.
• His mother is a well-known international model while his dad is a famous actor. They have been pushing Makoto to be in either career for years.
• Makoto did a small stint as a model then one as an actor before he stops around the age of ten. He doesn’t want to be part of either world as they’re very overwhelming due to his family’s name.
• He has accompanied his mom to her fashion shows where he would nearly be scouted every time. After an incident when he was twelve, where someone tried to get him to participate in a photoshoot that he didn’t want to do, his opinions about models and the fashion industry has soured. He loves his mom and respects her career, but he doesn’t want to be a model.
• He faced a similar incident when he accompanied his dad to the set when has was fifteen. Someone tried to get him to play the role in an upcoming drama that he hid from them, until his dad finished. He has the same opinions about actors as he does about models. He respects his dad the same way he does his mom, but knows that acting isn’t for him.
• Makoto’s interest in journalism started when he was fourteen after he started talking to the reporters at his mom’s fashion shows. His interest grows throughout his time in school that he joins his high school’s newspaper club. His interest pushes him to move to Recollé to pursue it.
• He really wants to show his family that he doesn’t have to rely on their names to make his own way. Even if he finds something else that he’s interested in anything would be better than being in the modeling or entertainment industry.
• His parents agreed for him to move on a few terms. He had to do one photo shoot with his mother, perform one scene with his father, and let them pay for his expenses such as his apartment, tuition, etc., While Makoto appreciates it, it doesn’t stop him from working in the bakery that’s not too far from the university. He just want to be able to have something that he can call his own.
• Makoto likes video games, but he participates in tournaments in secret.
• It’s the first time Makoto has been so far away from his family. He wants to show them that he can make it, he does miss them. He keeps up with his parents daily, taking time out to call them at least once every day and video chatting with them when they have free time.

AU PERSONALITY: Makoto is still a very cheerful and friendly boy. Since he’s not part of Trickstar he is a little shyer when it comes to meeting new people. He doesn’t fall into his playful side as much since he doesn’t need to use it on stage. He’s a bit worst at communication too, opting to communicate more through text instead of talking on the phone. Due to the way different models and actors ignored him when he they tried to scout him, he feels that people won’t listen to him, so he uses text as a way to get his point across. That way it’s something that he can show people instead of having his opinion drown out when he tries to speak.

There’s no Broadcasting Club to help encourage him to speak his mind. Without having to work out his problems with Izumi like in canon he has a problem talking to people. If something is bothering him, he’ll try to leave hints about it instead of letting that person know what the problem is. The only time he voices what’s on his mind is when he becomes very upset that he blurts everything out at once.

Now that his main motivation isn’t to be an idol he’s much quieter. With his parents in the limelight all the time he spends much of his time trying to blend into the background. He’s still willing to ask people questions for an article, he scrambles on what to do when the conversation goes beyond that. He’s not one to start a conversation or hold one for very long. Due to constantly moving around with his parents he hasn’t been able to make the lasting friendships that can help him work on his self-confidence or improve his communication skills. Much of his behavior stems from hiding from modeling and talent scouts. He would hide in his parents’ dressing rooms, until whatever going on was over. His self-confidence grew after getting closer to the reporters and the teachers in high school. Makoto does have a habit of going on his phone or reaching for his portable game when it becomes quiet that he’s trying to break out of.

Makoto will work with people, however he becomes a little suspicious when they want to continue after the project is over. Many people have tried to use him as a way to get in touch with his parents that he’ll choose to work on his own. It becomes a little harder for him to trust people enough to know that they won’t try to use him. However, after he becomes friends with someone he can be very trusting and will make little jokes if he can.

Makoto’s grades may have improved he still has to work on talking to people without relying too much on his phone. Instead of being an idol his motivation his desire to be recognized for his own talents.
